Bio

Liz2 copyHi, I am Jinghong Chen.

I came to the United States ten years ago to pursue my journalistic mission: to see beyond the facts and beneath the ordinary. As a data reporter at AIS Health, a publication covering the health care and pharmaceutical industries, I have fulfilled that mission by uncovering the deeper narratives behind complex data. For over eight years, I have used analytical techniques and data visualization tools to investigate and communicate intricate topics — ranging from Medicare and Medicaid policy to employer-sponsored insurance trends and major health care mergers. My goal is to turn data into stories that inform and drive understanding of the forces shaping the U.S. health care system.

Previously, I spent two years as a producer at the Global Journalist, a publication covering international affairs and press freedom issues. I also completed internships at Al Jazeera English’s daily show The Stream, The New York Times Chinese Edition, and Chicago’s NPR affiliate WBEZ, where I gained experience in both traditional and digital journalism.

I graduated in 2017 from Missouri School of Journalism with a focus on data journalism and international journalism.

Having grown up in China, I am fluent in Chinese and have a deep understanding of Chinese language and culture.
